34th African Judo Championships Draw

Today was a hive of activity at the VIP Hotel in Maputo, Mozambique, where 27 African Nations gathered for the official draw of the 34th African Judo Championships.

A total of 116 Male and 73 females are entered to participate in the championships; this is the first African Championships in the new four year Olympic cycle running up to Rio in 2016. Delegations were welcomed by Mr. Habib Sissoko, Vice President of the African Judo Union, where he wished all judokas the best of luck and stressed the point of sportsmanship and fair play.

Mr. Vizer, President of the International Judo Federation, addressed the delegations present and emphasised the fact that a lot of goals have been achieved for judo and that the sport is in the process of becoming a top world sport. He said ‘we have to continue with the correct continuity in our National Federations and have to follow the overall development programme of the International Judo Federation. Accompaning Mr. Vizer from the IJF was Mr. Juan Carlos Barcos, Head Referee Director and Mohamed Meridja, Head Coach and Education Director.
