IJF hosts seminar for new referee and technical rules

In December 2012, just after the Tokyo Grand Slam, the IJF made the announcement that necessary to keep up with the evolution of our sport and the testing period for these new rule changes will be completed after the World Championships in Rio.

66 delegates from 26 African countries congregated in Marrakech, Morocco over the period 19-20 January 2013 to attend the Seminar for. This was the second seminar hosted by the IJF, under the guidance of Mr. Juan Carlos Barcos, IJF Head Refereeing Director, Mr. Mohamed Meridja, IJF Education and Coaching Director and Mr. Nasser Al Tamimi, IJF General Treasurer, the first seminar being in Malaga, Spain.

Mr. Meridja said that “Mr El Jamali El Arabi played a key role in the success of the event and that the IJF were very pleased working and cooperating with him.’ He further went on to say that “The seminar was held and run in very good conditions. Good information circulation flow was operated prior and during the seminar. The participants were eager to get acquainted with the new refereeing and competition rules.” Through their respective functions as either coaches or referees with different goals they were still able to share their views and a relaxed but serious atmosphere prevailed during all discussions.

These seminars are a great milestone for the IJF and through this concerted effort; the judo world is undergoing a major turning point in its history, which should allow judo to reach new heights.
